EEPCo, TBEA sign Contract for Gibe III Transmission Line Project
Gibe III Hydroelectric Project (24 July 2009, Addis Ababa)- The Ethiopian Electric Power Corporation (EEPCo) and TBEA, a Chinese company, singed a contractual agreement on July 24, 2009, amounting to Birr 380,883,690.99 (USD 34,007,472.41) for the installation of power transmision line from Gibe III Main station to the new Wolaita substation.
The Corporation’s Chief, Mihret Debebe, and TBEA’s General Manager of the Africa Region, Zhao Yonggang, singed the contract agreement on behalf of their respective organizations at the EEPCo,s office.
The contract document indicates that the installation of power grid comprises LINE 1 & 2 covering 50.3km and 51km, respectively. The first line has 400kv, 3-phases, double circuit conductor on a double circuit transmission line while the second one, having identical features to Line 1, consists of single circuit conductor with the same transmission line and kilo volts.
The two parties have agreed that the installation of the transmission line is expected to be completed within 18 months from the date of contract commencement.
Speaking on the occasion, Mehiret mentioned that 85 percent of the project expenditure would be covered by the EXIM Bank of China.
Zhao Yonggang, on his part, underlined that the company would do all its best to complete the project within the sated period of time as his company has broad experience in the installation of power transmission lines.
